Kaio'tenhserí:io - The WOTP Training for a Semi Skilled Trade Program (TST)
This program is intended for students in Grade 9 and who are 15 years of age and older who are experiencing academic difficulties. The objective of the TST is to help students develop competencies that will enable them to successfully enter the work force. In addition to learning in the core subject areas, the program provides alternate ways for our students to progress in their intellectual, personal, social and vocational development. The TST is a one year certificate program that focuses on core academics while giving students substantial practical experience in the work place. Students who have successfully completed the TST Certificate may:
• Qualify for vocational programs leading to a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS).
• Continue in the General Education Path in Secondary Cycle Two.
• Continue on to the General Education Path in Adult Education (to attain pre-requisites for greater options in DVS programs or completion of The General Education Path).
• Successfully access the job market.
Transition Program (2/3)
The Transition Program is designed for students who are capable of completing the regular middle school curriculum but who need a little more time and support in order to be successful. This program delivers the regular Grade 7 and Grade 8 curriculum over 3 years. At the end of year 3, students will have the opportunity to return to mainstream Grade 9 or to enter the Training for a Semi Skilled Trade Program (TST).
Life Skills Programs
The Life Skills Programs offer a modified curriculum to students with significant learning needs. The curriculum is tailored to accommodate individual learning needs. KSS offers a Junior Life Skills program in middle school and a Senior Life Skills program from Grade 9 onwards.
These programs focus on two domains: daily living skills, and self-determination and interpersonal skills. Some students in the Senior Life Skills program will explore employment skills and opportunities.
